“Where do I start?” I kept asking myself this question the minute I got off the airport in London. I felt a bit uneasy and quite scared because I took the first step of doing something different. Most of my college classmates have already started working at the top auditing firms in the Philippines. And here I am in UK. I’m unemployed and haven’t got a clue on where to start. I knew this was a risky move, but I took it anyway. I convinced myself to be brave and not think about how other people are getting on with their lives. I should not feel pressured. I told myself to focus on the positive side of my decision: I have the means and opportunity to go to UK. So, I said, “why not give it a shot?”
Days later, my mom and I went to a certain university near the town to inquire if my qualifications are enough, so that I can start working straight away. I knew the system here in the UK is different. I expected that I still need to study before I can properly work here as an accountant. Anyway, we were advised to visit UK Naric; it is a website where overseas qualifications are converted into UK qualifications. After submitting the necessary documents, I waited 10 days to get the results.
